1310079 Esters of substituted penicillanic acids TOYAMA CHEMICAL CO Ltd 14 Dec 1971 [30 Dec 1970 (3)] 58061/71 Heading C2A The invention comprises esters of 6-(N-substituted - α - aminophenylacetamido) - penicillanic acid of Formula I in which R is C 1-5 alkyl, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are hydrogen, C 1 -C 5 alkyl or aryl or may form a heterocyclic ring together with the nitrogen atom adjacent thereto and R<SP>3</SP> is C 1 -C 5 alkyl. A process for producing such esters comprises reacting α- aminobenzylpenicillin or a salt thereof with #-keto-acid amides of Formula II to form the N-substituted-a-aminobenzylpenicillin of Formula III and then reacting it with an acyloxymethylhalide of Formula IV in which X is a halogen atom. Suitable salts of α-aminobenzylpenicillin include the sodium, potassium and triethylamine salts. Among the esters which may be prepared are the pivaloyloxymethyl esters of 6 - [N - (1 - piperidinocarbonylpropen - 2 - yl)] - α - amino - phenylacetamido penicillanic acid, 6 - [N - (1- pyrrolidino - carbonyl propen - 2 - yl)] - α- aminophenylacetamido penicillanic acid, and 6 - [N - (1 - anilino - carbonylpropen - 2 - yl)]- α-aminophenylacetamido penicillanic acid.
