Abstract
1310065 Recovery of Mo values AMERICAN METAL CLIMAX Inc 19 April 1971 [15 May 1970] 25659/71 Heading C1A Crude Mo oxide material, of <50 mesh, is treated with NH 4 OHaq. (NH 4 OH:Mo>2:1) to convert MoO 3 to (NH 4 ) 2 MoO 4 which is separated as an aqueous solution (1), the residue being at least partly oxidized to convert MoO 2 to MoO 3 and again treated with NH 4 OHaq. to produce a further solution (2): solutions (1) and (2) are combined and (NH 4 ) 2 MoO 4 is crystallized out and calcined to MoO 3 , NH 3 and H 2 O. The residue may be oxidized by being suspended in aqueous solution and treated with air under pressure, or by direct roasting in air, or the residue may be classified particles >150 mesh being oxidized, and those <150 mesh being treated with alkali metal carbonate solution to form a solution of alkali metal molybdate from which Mo values may be recovered by precipitation as Group II metal molybdates, and this treatment may also be used on the residue after removal of solution (2), the residue still remaining being oxidized and further treated with alkali metal carbonate solution. The solution remaining after crystallization of (NH 4 ) 2 MoO 4 may be treated with S= to precipitate Cu and Zn.
