Abstract
1310016 Knitting BENTLEY ENG CO Ltd 28 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 43104/69 Heading D1K Circularly knitted fabric, e.g. forming a stocking or the like, is closed on the knitting machine by holding a yarn of an initial course on loop holding instruments and knitting tubular fabric on all the needles in a knit/miss or knit/tuck pattern which fabric is constricted to form a closure after which the yarn is transferred from the loop holding instruments to the needles and a joining course is knitted. At one feed, yarn 1 is fed to every other needle IN in the first revolution, yarn 2 is fed to every needle in the second revolution and in the third revolution the needles AN which did not knit in the first course are lowered and dial hooks D7 projected over them so that yarn 3 is taken by needles IN and the hooks DH which hold these loops while the rest of the toe is knitted. At the fourth revolution, needles IN knit yarn 4 through loops 3b floats 4f being formed between. Course 5 is then knitted at the second feed through loops 2a on needles AN floats 5f being formed between: Course 6 is similar and in courses 7 and 8 needles AN hold their loops and needles IN knit. Courses 5-8 are repeated throughout the toe fabric. This fabric may be knitted with the same yarn as is used in the rest of the tights or stocking. This forms a turned welt which is closed by a constricting yarn see Specifications 1,253,684 and 1,264,303. Alternatively a tuck and float fabric may be used. The toe may be knitted at the end of the garment instead of the beginning.
