Abstract

1309904 Bearings R C CLERK 9 June 1970 [25 April 1969] 21243/69 Heading F2A [Also in Division F1] In a swash-plate pump or motor, the rotary swash-plate 6 is supported in its tiltable stationary carrier 1 by a double angle-contact ball bearing assembly 2 comprising a combination race 4 attached to swash-plate 6 and races 3 and 5 located in carrier 1. Hydrostatic thrust pads 12 apply hydraulic thrust between carrier 1 and combination race 4 via a bearing plate 11. The pads are biased to their retracted positions by disc springs 13, and are moved upwardly when the working liquid pressure of the pump or motor, supplied via impedance 19, exceeds a predetermined level. The pads on the high pressure side of the swash-plate are connected to the high pressure port of the pump or motor, and those on the low pressure side to the low pressure port, via galleries 18 in the carrier pivots 8. The working pressure acts on the underside of the thrust pad 12 to move it upwardly, and is transmitted to the upper surface of the pad through bore 17 in pin 14.
