Abstract

1309704 Coated cathode ray tube faceplate R C A CORPORATION 19 April 1971 [2 March 1970] 24317/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division C4] The concave surface of a cathode ray tube face plate is coated with particulate material, e.g. phosphor powder by dispensing a puddle of slurry comprised of the particulate material and mixed with a liquid vehicle on to the central portion of the concave surface while the face plate is rotated about an axis substantially normal to the central portion of the concave surface and at a small angle to the vertical and (a) spreading the slurry to the margin of the face plate by rotating the face plate about the axis and decreasing its speed while tilting the face plate to move the axis away from the vertical, (b) spreading the slurry back to the central portion of the face plate surface by either tilting the face plate to move the axis back towards the vertical and increasing the speed of rotation of the face plate, or by retaining the face plate in its tilted position and decreasing the speed of rotation of the face plate, and (c) again spreading the slurry to the margin of the face plate by either tilting the face plate to move the axis away from the vertical and decreasing the speed of rotation of the face plate, or by retaining the face plate in its tilted position while increasing the speed of rotation of the face plate.
