Abstract
1309435 Optical components R RODENSTOCK [trading as OPTISCHE WERKE G RODENSTOCK] 6 May 1970 [10 May 1969] 21916/70 Heading G2J The two lenses 1, 2 of an optical component in a mounting 3 are spaced apart by three identical steel balls 12 positioned around the inner peripheries of the lenses. The balls, which are producible in large numbers with close tolerances, are maintained in position by a cage ring 13 which may be resilient or rigid as dictated by the shape of the airspace between the lenses. If the tolerance of the airspace is distinctly greater than the diameter tolerance of the balls, then a plurality of balls forming a continuous ring may be employed. Axial lens pressure in the component can be adjusted by means of three grub screws 19, Fig. 5 which are screw-threaded through a ring 5 to bear against a non-rotatable ring 18 separated from lens 2 by a rubber ring 4. A soft rubber ring 16, Fig.6 possessing large surface friction (or alternatively a plastics plug) prevents rotation of lens 1, and a silicone rubber sealing ring 20 co-operates with ring 16 to seal off the airspace in order to prevent corrosion of the balls 12.
