1309345 Extruding I E KAPLIN S S KHAZIN J S BIKTEEV A N MIKHALEV G S BUTIN A N CHERNOV V S BYKOV and V P SOVENKO 7 April 1971 9009/71 Heading B3P A sheathing press comprises a heated container 1 for a billet 21 and a tool set 7 composed of a die 8 and a mandrel 9 provided with controllable heaters 17 independent of the heater for the container. The billet is extruded by a ram 19 arranged to act on the die axis. A core wire 20 is fed through a hole 16 in the mandrel for sheathing. A second similar tool set 13 with its own heaters 17 is mounted on a tool slide 10 which can be moved by an hydraulic unit 12 to sever the extruded product and to bring the second tool set to the extrusion axis. The core is steel wire which is sheathed with aluminium. The bimetallic wire produced may be as low as 1À7 mm. diameter.
