Abstract

1309107 Anode assembly for electrolysis PROGIL 22 Sept 1970 [22 Sept 1969] 45103/70 Heading C7B An anode assembly, suitable for use in an alkali metal halide electrolysis trough, comprises an electrically conducting input support plate encased in a layer of metal, chemically resistant to the electrolyte which is to be used, and a plurality of metal anodes connected at one end directly to the input by bolts secured in the support plate, and at the other end to a common rigid connector. The support plate may be of copper or aluminium. The common connector is preferably electrically conducting. The anodes may be made of foil or plate covered with activated platinum. The anodes, common connector, bolts and nuts used therewith are preferably of electrolyte resistant material such as titanium, tantalum or an alloy thereof. The nuts may be uniformly tightened sufficiently to minimize voltage drop. The electrolyte used may be aqueous. The anode base may itself be placed in a trough of concrete or polyester.
