1276021 Anodes for mercury cathode cells FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A G 24 July 1969 [1 Aug 1968] 37240/69 Heading C7B An anode for NaCl electrolysis by the amalgam process comprises a surface in the form of a sieve, e.g. grid, grating, honeycomb or expanded metal sheet, opposite to the cathode, and an electrolyte resistance distributer plate for supplying current to the outer edges of the sieve. Preferably the total mesh surface area is greater than 50% of the total sieve surface area. The sieve may be made of Ti, platinized, Ti, Zr, Ta or graphite; the distributer plate may be the same composition or of Pt group metal, Ag, Au or Cu plated with Ti or Pt.
