Abstract
1308650 Cyclopropane carboxylic acid derivatives; phosphonium compounds ROUSSEL UCLAF 15 June 1970 [13 June 1969] 28963/70 Headings C2C and C2P Novel cyclopropane compounds of the formula in which X is oxygen, sulphur or -NH-, R is hydrogen, C 1-6 alkyl, a group (where Y is an aryl group) or a group (where Z is an alkenyl or alkadienyl group), and potassium salts and acid chlorides thereof, are prepared by reacting 2-formyl-3,3-dimethylcyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid with a phosphonium salt of the formula in the presence of a base or with a phosphorane of the formula and, if desired, converting the free acid so obtained to the potassium salt, acid chloride or ester by conventional methods. The products may be obtained in the cis or trans form or the optically active forms thereof. Examples describe the preparation of K salts, acid chlorides, 5-benzylfuryl-3- and allethrolonyl esters and the [(2-oxo-3(oxa or thia or imino) cyclopentylidene) - methyl] - 3,3 - dimethylcyclopropane - 1 - carboxylio acids. The compounds may be used in insecticidal compositions. (2 - Pyrrolidon - 3 - yl)triphenyl phosphonium bromide is obtained by reaction of 3-bromo-2- pyrrolidone with triphenylphospine and may be converted to 2-pyrrolidon-3-yl triphenylphosphorane by treatment with NaOH.
