Abstract

1308272 Temperature responsive actuating elements DANFOSS A/S 14 May 1971 [6 June 1970] 14878/71 Heading G1D A temperature sensitive device comprising a chamber 2 filled with heat expansible material for displacing a control element 8 is provided with an electrically heatable coil 16 mounted on but generally out of contact with an elongated carrier 17 extending along the axis of the coil. As shown, the control element 8 which is in the form of a piston extending through a bush 10 and a seal 7 into the chamber 2 is displaced outwardly of the chamber by an amount proportional to the temperature of the material therein. The material may be wax. The heating coil 16 which may be of anodized aluminium is connected at its opposite ends to terminals 11, 12 which pass through a plate 4 forming an end wall of the chamber 2, the plate 4 supporting the carrier 17 which is of U-shaped configuration having its central portion out of the plane of the adjacent end portions of the carrier 17. The carrier may be of metal wire and coated with polytetrafluoroethylene or may be of plastics material.
