Abstract

1308248 Measuring torque electrically WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK GILDEMEISTER & COMP AKT-GES 17 June 1970 [20 June 1969] 29426/70 Headings G1W G1N [Also in Division B3] A device for measuring the torque applied to the spindle of a machine tool comprises a torsion member 14 secured at one end to the spindle 10 and having a ring gear 13 at its other end engaging a driving gear 16, and a radial roller bearing 15 for sustaining lateral forces on the torsion member. The torsion member comprises longitudinal bars connected at one end to the ring gear 13 and at the other end to a hub 13a keyed to the spindle 10 by key 12 Fig. 2 (not shown). The twist in the torsion member is measured by elements 17 connected in a bridge circuit the output of which is amplified by amplifiers situated in the ring 19 and transmitted to non-contacting device 20 to control the machine damping devices 21, 22 are also supplied on the bars of the torsion member. The torsion member and its hub are secured to the spindle by nut 18 and ring 19. The end of the hub supporting bearing 15 is conical and engages a conical part 11 of the spindle. The hub is advanced along the spindle by nut 18 until the hub is expanded sufficiently by the conical part 11 to obviate play in the bearing 15.
