Abstract
130,823. Shepherd, A. A. Sept. 9, 1918. Vehicle-axle bearings.-The top, bottom, and sides of a railway-vehicle axlebox consist of drop forgings or stampings of mild steel or wrought iron, welded, riveted, or bolted together. The cover D is also preferably a drop stamping or forging. The back may consist of a flat perforated plate L, and another plate may be fitted to act as an oil guard, the plates being welded, riveted, or bolted in position. The sides B are formed with axle-guard grooves B<1>, recesses G to receive projections on the top and bottom and larger recesses G<2> to reduce weight, and with projections K to guide the bearing and slipper. To enable the two sides to be stamped by one pair of dies, two projections K may be formed, the lower one being cut off before assembling the parts.
