Abstract
1308107 Valves VEREINIGTE FLUGTECHNISCHE WERKE-FOKKER GmbH 19 April 1971 [30 May 1970] 25097/71 Heading F2V [Also in Division G1] A temperature regulating valve for controlling the supply of a heated fluid from port 7 has a set of temperature responsive rods 18 extending between fixed flange 13 and a sliding flange 17 pinned at 21 to a stem 20 carrying a closure member 27. The rods 18 are of a nickeltitanium alloy which, below a certain critical temperature, exhibits a low-strength monoclinic structure whereby spring 15 can extend the rods to an extent allowed by slots 22 and unseat the closure member 27. Above the critical temperature, the alloy changes to a cubic structure and the rods revert to their original length, thereby reseating the closure member against spring 15. An overtravel spring 26 allows the closure member to be unseated by excess pressure. In a first modification (Fig. 3, not shown), each rod can consist of three endwiseconnected lengths having different critical temperatures, and flange 13 is axially adjustable to determine which lengths are to be effective. In another modification (Fig. 2, not shown), two concentric sets of rods are disposed in series to increase travel of the valve stem. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,180,782.
