1307734 Digital read-out arrangements RICOH KK 20 May 1970 [21 May 1969 24 Nov 1969 24 Dec 1969] 24377/70 Heading G4H In an arrangement for reading out a clock or meter having a number of numeral wheels 1, contact pins 2 are provided on the wheels in a coded pattern and contact arms 4 are displaceable towards the wheel by means of a coil 7 to complete a circuit from terminal A, through contacts 2 and X, contact Y and arm 5 to terminal B. Each decade wheel has four tracks and four contact arms 4. When coil 7 is energized by a signal on terminals CD a circuit is completed between terminals A and B if a pin is present in that position. All the contact arms are carried on a pivoted plate 9 normally held in the raised position by springs 13. A push-button 11 may be provided having a cross-arm 12 and depending pins positioned over certain ones of arms 5. When the push-button is operated it is arranged to open a switch 15 in the line connected to terminal A so that the wheel is de-energized. Instead, the power from terminal A is applied to a combination of the arms 5 through the depending pins. This transmits a number identifying the clock or meter. In a modification, Fig. 7, the terminal A is connected through normally closed contacts Y with certain ones of the arms 5. Before coil 7 is energized, therefore, the identifying number is transmitted by terminals B and when coil 7 is energized, the reading is sent. In the form of Fig. 9 (not shown) there are two contact arms, for each track, one each side of the numeral wheel, and spring-loaded away from the wheel. The arms are connected by a cord and pulley or a linkage to move simultaneously towards and away from the wheel. When the coil is energized the two arms move towards the wheel and make contact with pins if they are present. There are only three tracks on each wheel, each value being indicated by six bits. In the form of Fig. 14 there are two pairs of movable arms, the contacts X1, X2 being between the arms. The arms are connected by cord 12 and pulley 11 to move together and close on the numeral wheel when the coil 7 is energized. Pins 2, if present, cause two Corresponding contacts to close. Coded numbers 27, 28 are moved into contact with the arms 21, 22 to close certain contacts X1, X2 and send the identifying number of the apparatus. The pins may be replaced by magnets and the switch arms by reed-switches which are operated when moved close to the wheel for read-out.
