1307436 Styrenes DR KARL THOMAE GmbH 4 Aug 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 37663/70 Heading C2C Compounds of the general Formula (I): (Ar=2-, 3- or 4-pyridyl, 2-quinolyl, 2-pyrazinyl, pyrimidyl or 5-(1,2,4-oxadiazolyl) optionally substituted by a C l -y alkyl group, 2-benzimidazolyl optionally substituted by a halogen atom or a OF or C 1-3 alkyl group, 5-isoxazolyl optionally substituted by a Ph or C 1-3 alkyl group, Ph, 2-furyl, 2-thienyl; R 1,2,4,5 = H, C 1-3 alkyl; R3 = H, C 1-3 alkoxy; R 6,7 =H, C 1-3 alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, aralkyl or NR 6 R 7 = saturated monocyclic 5-7 membered ring optionally containing an oxygen or further nitrogen atom; n = 0, 1) and their acid addition salts, are prepared by (a) eliminating water from a compound of the Formula (II): (b) reacting a compound of the Formula (III): (R 8 = C 1-3 alkyl) with a compound of the Formula (IV): in the presence of a base, (c) reacting a compound of the Formula (V): with a compound of the Formula (VI): in the presence of a base, (d) reacting a compound of the Formula (VII): (X=H, COCH 3 ) with a compound of the Formula (VIII): (Y=halogen) in the presence of a base, (e) reacting a compound of the Formula (IX):) (Z = replaceable atom or group) with a compound of the Formula (X): or (f) reacting a compound of the Formula (XI): with a compound of the Formula (IV), optionally followed in each case by salt formation and/ or isomer separation. The above compounds are analgesics, sedatives, and muscle relaxants, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier.
