Abstract

1307213 Pistons WHITLOCK BROS Ltd 18 March 1970 [18 March 1969] 14287/69 Heading F2T In an hydraulic ram the piston is packed by an annular seal 7 retained axially between two split collars 4 which engage circumferential grooves 3 in the piston-rod 2. The seal 7 which comprises a central rubber ring and two fabric reinforced end rings is retained with washers 11 and a sleeve 8 between the collars 4, the sleeve being sealed to the piston-rod by an O- ring 6. Nylon anti-extrusion rings 13, 14, one, 14, of which is split to facilitate assembly, fit in recesses in the collars 4. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the packing comprises two annular seals (7) and three split collars (4).
