Abstract

1307166 Inking apparatus PAMARCO Inc 7 July 1971 31946/71 Heading B6C An inking roller for inking the surface of a half-tone flexographic printing-plate has a cellular surface formed by two sets of crisscrossing lands 65, 66, the lands being arranged so that there are 250-800 cells per linear inch in each direction and the lands 66 being slightly less, e.g. 1 micron in height than the lands 65. The lands 65 are continuous and are 25-150% wider than the lands 66 extending between them the lands 66 having curved edges 91 as shown in Fig. 3c. The recesses or cells 56 are generally hemispherical in shape and have a depth of not more than 12 microns. Ink is supplied to the roller from a duct roller which may also act as a scraper or a separate doctor blade may be employed engaging the surface of the inking roller. Splash guards (24, 30, 81, Figs. 1a, 1b not shown) may be provided on the ink trough. The surfaces of the cells are chromed.
