Abstract
1306123 Expanding pulling gear SOC ANON PIV 7 July 1970 [8 July 1969] 32905/70 Heading F2D An expanding V-belt pulley gear comprises axially movable flanges 4, 5 freely rotatably mounted on a driving shaft 1, the flange 4 being connected to the shaft 1 by a torqueresponsive cam device comprising a pair of rollers 9 carried on diametrically opposite pins 10 of the flange 4 and engaging a double helicoidal ramp or cam surfaces 8 on a coupling member 7 rotationally fast and axially slidable on the shaft 1, whereby the pulley flanges are urged together by the torque responsive camming rollers 9 to adjust the belt tension and grip (i.e. avoid slip) in response to transmitted torque. A spring 11 additionally urges the flanges 4, 5 together and ensures an adequate grip on the belt 13 under light torque load conditions. Ratio adjustment is effected via the usual levers 14 connected to the flanges 4, 5, via members 15 acting through thrust bearings 16 direct to flange 5 and through the axially slidable cam member 7 to flange 4, and being connected to two further pulley flanges (not shown) for joint simultaneous control thereof in the usual manner.
