Abstract
1305414 Continuous casting AEG-ELOTHERM GmbH 1 May 1970 [12 Dec 1969] 21145/70 Heading B3F To avoid the formation of radial dendrite crystals and axial accumulation of impurities, movement is caused in the molten core 6 in the shell 17 of a continuously cast slab or plate 5, by a travelling magnetic field, generated by at least one linear-travelling-field inductor 9 disposed so that the direction 13 of propagation of the field is parallel to the wider side faces of the casting. Inductors 9 are mounted in a supporting frame 1 of an apron of supporting and withdrawing rollers 3. To increase the agitation of the core 6, the polarity of the inductor may be continually changed and/or the inductor may be alternately turned on and off or the inductor voltage may be continuously or abruptly varied.
