Abstract

1305129 Aerating liquids A H GEERLINGS 27 Nov 1970 [3 Dec 1969] 56488/70 Heading B1C A paddle wheel for aerating a liquid flow (e.g. of sewage) has a shaft 1 mounting a core 2 having detachable brush parts 4 and blades 3 which rotate the wheel by the action of the liquid flow A thereon. The blades 3 may be helical (see Fig. 3, not shown) and the core 2 may be hollow so that the wheel can float, its bearings also being supported by floats. In a modification the blades 3 may have tangential projections (6, Fig. 4, not shown) and there may be brushes in separate shafts (9) rotated by gearing. In another embodiment, see Fig. 5 (not shown) the propelling blades may be centrally arranged with brush-carrying shafts on either side, a converging flume (8,8') directing the flow to the propelling blades. The flow may be natural, or induced by pump or other means.
