Abstract

130,428. Boulton & Paul, and North, J. D. Feb. 22, 1918. Planes, construction of, and connecting together. -The internal and external bracing-wires and struts of the wings of aeroplanes are connected to a cross-member extending between the spars, whereby the spars are not materially weakened by the connexions, and these connexions are located within the aerofoil section so as to reduce the headresistance. The cross-member 1 passes through the front and rear wing spars 2 and may be secured by collars 4. Lugs 7. 13 for the attachment of the external bracing-wires 6, the incidence wires 15, and the interplane struts 12 are provided on collars 8, 14, which may be secured to the cross-member 1 by pins. A plate 9 bolted at 10 to the spar has lugs for the internal bracing-wires. This plate may be formed as a flange of the collar 8. The cross-member 1 may also serve as a drift strut.
