Abstract
1304284 Making heat exchangers; casting composite articles SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 20 Feb 1970 8400/70 Headings B3A and B3F [Also in Divisions B5 and F4] A plate 6 is moulded directly on to the ends of heat exchanger tubes 1, 1 1 , Fig. 1, the tube ends each having an external flange 1<SP>1</SP> which abuts against the plate. The plate 6 may be of rubber or synthetic resin; or the plate may be of an aluminium-silicon alloy whilst the tubes are of aluminium and in such case the tube ends are aluminium-silica plated and brazing flux is deposited thereon so that brazing is effected when the plates are cast. The casting may be by gravity, or under pressure using the means shown in Figs. 6 and 7. As shown the casting 6 includes a peripheral flange (defining a header compartment), a rim 7 and a fluid connecting piece 12. Half-moulds 14, 15 are brought together (direction f 1 ) and notches therein embrace the tube ends. Then a stem 17 descends (direction f 2 ) and the lower end of the stem is shaped at 18, 19 to penetrate and overturn the tube ends and hold them in position whilst casting is effected. The connection 12 is formed by a cavity 20 in the half-mould 14 and by a displaceable stem 21. The material to be cast or moulded may be injected through each of the half-moulds 14, 15 and through the stem 17; and the half moulds and stem may incorporate heating and/or cooling means.
