Abstract
1303128 Coating webs with particulate materials CARL FREUDENBERG 6 April 1970 [9 April 1969] 16129/70 Heading D1L Particulate material is applied to a continuous web 1 by passing the web under a rotating horizontal disc 3 onto which the material is fed and from which it is thrown onto the web by centrifugal force. For uniformity of the coating the speed of the disc (or the lowermost disc if there is more than one) should be such that particulate material thrown off the disc substantially at angle of 90‹ to the direction of motion of the web is thrown beyond the edges of the web. The material may be fed to the disc 3 from a similar disc 6 situated above it and this can in turn be supplied with material from a further disc 14 fed from a chute 15 and hopper 11, the disc diameters decreasing from disc 3 to 14. Baffles 16 and 17 deflect the material to the discs below discs 6 and 14 and baffle 12 and trough 13 collect material missing the web. A further embodiment described (Figs. 1 and 2) has disc 14 replaced by a disc on which a non-rotating spiral baffle (9) is situated and serves to feed the material through a hole (8) in the centre of the disc. The material may be a thermoplastic material and can be thus fused to the web after being applied thereto.
