Abstract

1,053,514. Electrostatic Coating Apparatus. SOC. ANON. DE MACHINES ELECTROSTATIQUES. Feb. 19, 1964 [Feb. 19, 1963], No. 6941/64. Heading B2L. Apparatus for the electrostatic coating of articles comprises a store vessel for the coating material, a downwardly directed passage leading from the store to a point above the upper surface of a rotatable discharge member which is maintained in use at a high potential relative to the article to be coated. Coating material, which may be liquid or particulate, passes by gravity from a store vessel 9 (Fig. 2, not shown) through a passage 13 to a rotating disc 10 provided with holes 11 and maintaned at high potential by e.g. an electrostatic generator 15, and is discharged from the disc 10 by a combination of gravitational, electrostatic and centrifugal forces on to the article 1 e.g. a bath tub. The entire apparatus is mounted for horizontal and vertical movement to ensure distribution of the coating material. e.g. enamel powder. In a modification (Fig. 3. not shown) three discs are provided mounted one above the other on a rotatable tube and internally disposed tubes supply the respective discs with the same or different coating compositions, or, for example supoly a thermosetting resin powder to two of the discs and a setting agent or polymerization catalyst to the remaining disc. Where the disc is only partly surrounded by the article to be coated masking means may be provided in the form of a shield or baffle about part of the circumference of the disc.
