Abstract
1303105 Kegs; washing barrels C A NEUBECKER 23 Jan 1970 [31 Jan 1969] 3453/70 Headings B8D and B8T [Also in Division B2] A keg to be coated with wax is first washed out with either hot water and/or steam which acts to remove any wax from a previous application. After washing the keg passes along a conveyer line to a station at which the keg is heated by infra-red means and dried by a vacuum pump the nozzle of which is seated against the bunghole of the keg. The vacuum is then released and sterile air injected. The keg is then waxed internally by a spray of molten wax supplied under pressure from a pump and reservoir, the wax being kept in molten condition by steam heating means. After coating the bunghole is cleaned by mechanical means, e.g. by a cutter which cleans the thread of the bunghole and the frontal surface thereof. Another bunghole cleaning device is shown in Fig. 4 and comprises means for feeding compressed air through a feed-pipe 30 and jet outlets 28, 29 and for feeding steam through an inlet pipe 31 to outlets 29 and outlets 34 in a ring 33 facing the external surface of the bunghole. The ring 33 is pivoted at 35 and upwardly urged by means of a spring 36.
