Abstract
1303030 Casting-machines NIPPON LIGHT METAL CO Ltd 15 July 1971 [15 July 1970] 33345/71 Heading B3F A pressure die casting machine has means 9 for introducing oxygen into the injection cylinder 6 and mould cavity 4, and heat insulated zones within the cavity 4. The zones may be formed by inserts 10 of ceramic or metallic material located in cavities in the mould walls. The inserts may have heating wires embedded therein and serve to retard the solidification of the molten metal in the said zones compared with that in other parts of the mould cavity. This ensures that any shrinkage pores are concentrated in these zones which are located so as to correspond to unimportant parts of the casting, e.g. parts which are subsequently removed from the casting in order to obtain the finished product. Oxygen is introduced into the injection cylinder 6 and mould cavity 4 to displace the air therefrom prior to injection of the molten metal. The oxygen then reacts with the metal to form metal oxide particles in the casting and enables a casting almost free from blow holes to be obtained.
