1302850 Process for decatising textile material A MONFORTS 21 Dec 1970 [20 Dec 1969] 60678/70 Headings D1P and D1L A continuous process for decatising material consisting at least partly of wool comprises passing a decatising agent, which is a super heated vapour of a medium which is not an expanding agent or solvent for the material being decatised and which boils at over 100‹C under atmospheric pressure, through the material in a closed chamber. The decatising agent is a chlorinated hydrocarbon, e.g. perchloroethylene or any other substantially non-toxic and non-combustible solvent and may be recovered after it has passed through the material. Also the decatising agent may be mixed with for example 1 to 5% of water or steam. The apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a perforated treatment drum 2 over which the web of goods 1 runs and then passes to a cooling drum 3 with a suction fan 4 for cooling air. On both drums, or only on the drum 2' the web 1 is pressed down by means of an endless backing 5, which is permeable to the treating agent. The treatment drum 2 is in a tightly sealed vessel 6, which has slotshaped packings 7 and 8 for the inlet and outlet of the product and backing. The treatment decatising medium is fed to 6 through the pipe 10 so that it flows through the treatment drum 2 and hence through the goods 1 from the inside towards the outside. In the outer jacket of 6 there is the outlet 11 for the treatment agent. There is also means for recovering the solvent. In certain cases the pressing of the web of material by means of a backing cloth can be dispensed with.
