Abstract

1302261 Stopping pipes FRIEDRICH UHDE GmbH 3 June 1970 [3 June 1969] 26786/70 Heading F2P A closure device in a high-pressure vessel comprises an outer plug engageable with the vessel wall, and an inner plug engageable with the vessel wall and having means for enabling part only of the outer plug to experience a force due to vessel fluid pressure whereby the force transmitted by each plug to the wall is substantially less than that which would be transmitted by the outer plug in the absence of the inner plug. In one embodiment fluid pressure acts on the inner plug 3 and though a piston 4, to the outer plug 2; the plugs may be held in the vessel 1 by bayonet connections or screw threads. Alternatively, part of the inner surface of the outer plug 2, bonded by a seal, is exposed to fluid through a bore in the inner plug 3, the forces acting as before.
