1301609 Centrifugal separation DZERZHINSKY FILIAL NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKOGO I KONSTRUKTORSKOGO INSTITUTA KHIMICHESKOGO MASHINOSTROENIA 22 June 1971 [22 June 1970 23 June 1970] 29151/71 Heading B2P In a method of separating the solid and liquid fractions of a suspension, a lubricating fluid is first fed onto the surface of a body of revolution to provide a liquid coat thereon and the suspension is then delivered onto the liquid coat and subjected to centrifugal forces whereby the solid fraction is separated from the liquid fraction. A member of conical discs 1 of progressively increasing diameter are mounted above one another within a shell 7 on a hollow rotary shaft 2 provided with apertures 3 for the delivery of lubricating fluid supplied through the shaft onto the inclined surfaces of the discs. The suspension is supplied through a feeder 12 and is directed as a film onto the lubricantcoated disc surfaces in succession by guiding members 4 and funnels 5. Solid particles of decreasing size are detached from the suspension film on the surfaces of the successive discs by centrifugal force and hurled into pockets 8 formed by shelves 6 in the shell 7, the separated particles being discharged from the pockets through outlets 9. The liquid fraction accumulates in a bottom collection chamber 10 and is removed through an outlet 11.
