Abstract

1301320 Sheet piling TOT AANNEMING VAN WERKEN VOORHEEN H J NEDERHORST NV 23 Nov 1970 [22 Nov 1969] 55693/70 Heading E1H A sheet pile section 1 having locking channels 2 along opposite edges is provided prior to insertion into the ground with an integral closure (e.g. sheet steel plates 3, 4) or one end of one of the channels. The plates 3, 4 may be 1mm. thick and the plate 4 may extend along the pile between 0.5 and 1.5 metres. After the pile section 1 is rammed or vibrated into the ground, the sealed channel 2 may be filled with a dense liquid with low internal friction (e.g. a bentonite suspension containing a small amount of cement), the liquid being displaced from the channel when an adjacent section is drawn into the earth. The channel of the adjacent section which enters the sealed channel 2 of the first section, is not sealed and may have its walls removed over the length of the plate 4.
