Abstract

1300643 Feeding sheets LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS GmbH 29 Jan 1970 [31 Jan 1969] 4418/70 Heading B8R The suction belt separator for flat objects, e.g. letters of different lengths on edge in a stack 1, comprises a perforated belt 5 rotatable past suction apertures 9 in the wall of a suction chamber 2 in communication with the atmosphere via a constricted aperture 8, the chamber 2 being in communication with a vacuum source via a control passage across the conveying path, of the perforated belt 5, the passage being formed between ports 10 in the wall of the first suction chamber 2 and vacuum ports 11<SP>1</SP>, e.g. in a second suction chamber 11 resiliently mounted opposite the first chamber 2 and having a rotatable perforated belt 14. The control passage is at a shorter distance from the suction apertures 9 than the length of the shortest object to be separated from the stack 20 that an object initially attracted to belt 5 by suction from apertures 9 and slits (9<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 2 (not shown), in the first chamber 2, is conveyed between this belt and the perforated belt 14 and, in transit, blocks the control passage thereby cutting the suction supply to chamber 2 which therefore is returned to atmospheric pressure via aperture 8. No other object is attracted to the belt 5 until the tail edge of the first object clears the control passage.
