1300273 Mould and core materials VEREIN ZUR FORDERUNG DER GIESSEREIINDUSTRIE 2 April 1970 [22 April 1969] 15755/70 Addition to 1066348 Heading C3N A process for the preparation of moulding sands wherein (I) one or more carbonaceous substances with a softening index value, as defined in the Specification, between 0À2 and 0À7 and (II) one or more further carbonaceous substances with more than 50% by weight of volatile components, excluding their water content, are added to a natural or synthetic quartz moulding sand formulation either separately or as a pre-mix, the weight ratio of (I) to (II) being at least 90 : 10. Substance (I) is preferably a mixture of coal-dust and bitumen whilst substance (II) may be black peat optionally admixed with polystyrene dust. The total amount of carbonaceous substances (I) and (II) may be 2-5% by weight, preferably 2À8-3À5% by weight.
