Abstract

1300047 Cable insulation VEREINIGTE DRAHT-UND KABELWERKE AG and COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON-HOTCHKISS BRANDT 15 Jan 1970 [15 Jan 1969] 2125/70 Heading H1A A cable consists of at least one core conductor 1 surrounded by an insulating support sheath 2 and an outer concentric conductor assembly 3 arranged between the support sheath 2 and an external insulating sheath 5, the concentric conductor assembly 3 being completely embedded in a foamed plastics material 4. The conductor 3 may be of iron or aluminium wires. A synthetic plastics producer, e.g. a mixture of an isocyanate, which contains Freon (Registered Trade Mark) as expanding agent and a polyurethane is applied to conductor 3 before the application of sheaths so that the reaction producing the plastics material 4 takes place at the earliest after application of sheath 5. At least one of the components of the plastics producer is enclosed in micro-capsules which is destroyed by pressure or heat in the application of sheathing 5 or after by heat in a separate operation.
