Abstract

1299998 Treating Ni-surfaced electro-types POLYGRAM GmbH 14 Dec 1970 [10 March 1970] 59254/70 Heading C7B A nickel-surfaced electro-type, e.g. for a gramophone record, is treated prior to deposition of a further metal layer on its surface by degreasing the electro-type by operating it as a cathode immersed in an alkaline bath, and thereafter momentarily operating it as an anode while still immersed in said bath by alteration of the direction of current flow, so that the surface is provided with a parting layer to facilitate removal of said further metal after its deposition. As shown, a record electrotype 7 is treated at 50-55‹C. in bath 2 with an alkaline solution containing, per 150 litres, 2625 g NaOH, 4125 g Na 2 CO 3 , 750 g Na 2 SiO 3 and 15 g wetting agent, first as cathode and then as anode for a fraction of a second, and is then sprayed with water in 3 by spray 10, neutralized in aqueous sulphamic acid in bath 4 and sprayed with tap- and distilledwater in container 5, the device 6 moving the workpiece to the working stations.
