Abstract

[Also in Divisions C3, C5, C7 and G1] A process for etching metal, glass, porcelain and stoneware surfaces comprises applying to the surface a paste comprising a liquid etching agent, a plastics powder and optionally a wetting agent, organic solvent or inorganic solid, and subsequently removing the paste. The plastics powder may be of polyethylene, polypropylene or polybutene, and specified optional ingredients include tetrapropylene benzene sulphonate, lauryl dimethyl ammonium chloride, nonylphenol polyglycol ethers, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, silicates, kieselguhr and alumina. An example describes a metal pickling solution comprising water, nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid, tetrapropylenebenzene sulphonate and polyethylene powder.
