Abstract

1299949 Estimating dissolved gas in liquids APV CO Ltd 6 Aug 1971 [3 Sept 1970] 42249/70 Heading B1X Apparatus for continuously measuring the dissolved gas content of a liquid, comprises a chamber having a restriction at an inlet and connected to a pump at an outlet, means for measuring the density of a foam formed in the chamber and for adjusting the restriction and/or the pump output conditions to maintain the foam at a predetermined density, and means for measuring the pressure at a predetermined point between the inlet restriction and the pump, which pressure, for a known temperature provides indication of the dissolved gas content of the liquid entering the chamber. Liquid entering the apparatus shown at 1 passes through a variable restriction 2 to vertical chamber 6. The pressure of the foam so formed is measured by transducers 13 and 14, the difference indicating the density of the foam. The total pressure measured by transducers 16 is a measure of the amount of dissolved gas and may be used to control means at an earlier stage for introducing gas into the liquid. The apparatus may be used to control the carbon dioxide content of beer.
