1299558 Measuring fluid-flow HELMERICH & PAYNE Inc 19 April 1971 [19 Oct 1970] 26305/71 Heading G1R The interchange 46 in a flowmeter prover loop 10 which comprises tube sections 15, 16, 18, (20), (22), 24, (26), (28), (30), 34, 36 through which a resilient sphere 42, 44 is propelled by fluid-flow and which has a main flow inlet connection 12 and an outlet (18) branched from section 34, has a reciprocating valve member 60 and a co-operating seat ring 62. The head of valvemember 60 is tapered and is movable by hydraulic cylinder 52 into sealing engagement with the seat ring thereby forcing a resilient sphere through the constriction defined by ring 62, past pivoted semicircular valve-members 74, which substantially prevent backflow, and into the inlet of the loop. Leakage between the ring 62 and valvemember 60 into groove 68 is detected by a fluidpressure operated switch 81. The sphere is turned in the loop between signalling devices 38, 40 and is then deflected into conduit 36 and held by a semicircular restraining member 82. When another run is to be started the valve-member 60 is raised and pivotally releases member 82 to allow the sphere to fall on to the seat ring 62, the ring preferably having a smallest diameter between 2% and 5% less than the diameter of the sphere. Spheres may be removed and inserted through a closure 57, temporarily insertable track rails (106) bridging the gap between the conduit 36 and opening 55.
