Abstract

1299052 Toy wheels MATTEL Inc 19 April 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 21218/71 Heading A6S A wheel 48, includes a central opening 54 having a cylindrical wall 56, which acts as a bearing surface against an axle 38. Aligned with the opening 54, having a coincident longitudinal central axes is a second opening 58. An annular recess 62 is formed in the wall 60 of the second opening to accommodate a spherical thrust bearing 74 which may be a steel ball. To prevent lateral movement of the wheel one end 70 of the axle is swaged to have a diameter larger than the opening 54, and thus abuts the conical section 66 connecting the openings. The steel ball 74 is held in place by annular lips 73, and therefore movement of the wheel 48 in the other lateral direction is prevented by abutment of the steel ball 74 and the flat surface 72. The wheel 48 may be integrally moulded of resilient material.
