Abstract
1299016 Separating C 8 aromatic isomers BP CHEMICALS Ltd 19 May 1971 [12 June 1970] 28487/70 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] C 8 aromatic isomers are separated from one another by selective adsorption on an aluminosilicate bed comprising offretite, followed by desorption of the selectively adsorbed isomer. The operation may be in the liquid or, preferably, vapour phase, e.g. at 120-300‹ C. using a diluent gas. Desorption may be effected by pressure reduction or the use of a desorbing agent e.g. a mononuclear aromatic (e.g. toluene) or an alkane (e.g. pentane). A purge stage may be interposed between the adsorption and desorption stages. The offretite is preferably ionexchanged with Ba, Li, Cs or Mg before calcination.
