Abstract

1298635 Chromatographic sampling valve DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 9 Feb 1970 [10 Feb 1969] 6144/70 Heading B1X A chromatographic sampling valve for mixing intermittently flowing samples of a heated corrosive gas with a continuously flowing carrier gas comprises a valve body 10 have a carrier gas passageway 15, 11, 9, 8, 9', 6 15a and a sample gas passageway 15b, 12, 28', 26, 29', 7, 15c. Reciprocable pairs of valve stems, 16, 16a, having the. apertures 9, 9' to complete the carrier gas passageway, and 16b, 16c are coupled to their respective drive shafts (25), (27), Fig. 1 (not shown). In operation a "plug" of sample gas is trapped in the chamber 26 by closing the channels 28', 29' with the lower pair of valve stems. The upper pair of valve stems are then raised (to the Fig. 2 position) so that the "plug" can be flushed out to, e.g. a chromatograph. The sample gas maybe chlorine, fluorine, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride, sulphur dioxide, nitric and nitrous oxide, hydrogen sulphide or tetrachloroisophthalonitrile. The carrier gas may be nitrogen or an inert gas.
