Planes, construction of.-An aerofoil for aeroplanes and the like is constructed with its outer edges y raked off in plan, with its upper and under surfaces, or both, shaped so that the curvature is the same at any point along a line, such as 1. 2, or 3, drawn at right-angles to the longitudinal axis of the machine, and with the angle of incidence of the outer ends decreasing towards the tips x. The raking of the outer edges y may be such that the tips x are on the leading edge, instead of on the trailing edge as shown: or the tips may lie between these edges.
