1298120 Pen holders or stands H RIEPE and K H DITZE [trading as RIEPE-WERKE] 18 Aug 1970 [19Aug 1969 6 Sept 1969] 39776/70 Heading B6P A combination of stand and tubular writing points wherein the stand comprises a one piece member with spaced parallel sockets each accommodating a tubular writing point, the end of each socket remote from its mouth communicating with a water space to receive water vapour therefrom whereby the writing points are surrounded by a humid atmosphere but do not protrude into the water. In one form, Fig. 1, the stand 1, cast or injection moulded, has sockets 2 to receive the point sections of tubular point pens, and a space 6 to receive a water-containing tube 11, of porous material, e.g. clay. The water diffuses through the tube into the space surrounding the pen point so that the ink does not dry up. A filling opening 17 may be closed by a member made of transparent material so that the water level can be checked. In one modification (Fig. 2), (not shown) a tubular member corresponding to the tube 11 has an inwardly-extending groove at its upper part into which the pen points extend. According to another modification (Fig. 5), (not shown), the space 6 is filled with porous material, e.g. sponge. In Fig. 3, a square-sectioned water-holding space 8 is provided below the sockets 2, the upper wall 14 of the space 8 having one or more capillary holes 15 through which the water can evaporate into the space around the pen points. The whole stand may be made of porous material (Fig. 5) in which case an upper wall corresponding to the upper wall 14, Fig. 3, is imperforate, and the outside of the stand is covered with insulating material, e.g. varnish so that no moisture escapes through the outer walls. A stand 21, Fig. 6, as described may be hingedly mounted together with a lid 27 on a box 23 by means of a pivot 25. An eccentric on the pivot 25 engages a surface 30 to hold the lid in an open position wherein the pens 26 are at an acute angle to the box base 22. An additional space 32 may be provided in the box to hold a container with refill ink, and closure caps for the pens, and may be closed by a plastics plate slid into grooves.
