Abstract

1298119 Preparation of photographic silver halide emulsions FUJI PHOTO FILM Co Ltd 17 Aug 1970 [18 Aug 1969] 39567/70 Heading G2C A process of preparing a silver halide photographic emulsion comprises reacting a watersoluble silver salt and a water-soluble halide in the presence of ammonia thereby to precipitate the silver halide in solution, wherein benzotriazole or a substituted benzotriazole not containing a mercapto or thiocarbonyl group is present during said reaction in an amount of 1À0 Î 10<SP>-5</SP> to 4À0 Î 10<SP>-3</SP> mole per mole of the total silver halide. The substituted benzotriazole may be 5-chloro-, 5-bromo-, 5-methyl-, 5-nitro- 4, 6-dinitro-, 1-ethyl-or 1-phenylbenzotriazole. The benzotriazole may be added in an aqueous solution of gelatin or in an aqueous solution of the water-soluble halide. The silver halide emulsion is preferably a chlorobromide or chloroiodobromide emulsion. A metal salt or a metal complex salt, the metal not being silver, e.g. rhodium ammonium chloride, may be added during preparation of the emulsion. High density, high contrast material with little fog formation is produced without decreasing the sensitivity.
