Abstract

1297908 Anti-theft devices BRITAX (LONDON) Ltd 31 March 1970 [1 April 1969] 15203/70 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] An anti-theft lock suitable for locking a movable part of a vehicle comprises a lock cylinder 2 slotted in a longitudinal direction to receive a key 4 and which is rotatable about its longitudinal axis, only when the key is in the slot between two positions, in one of which the lock is in a locking state and in the other in which the lock is in an unlocking state and in which the key can only be inserted into and removed from its slot when the cylinder is in the locking state, the lock including a bolt 10 longitudinally slidable parallel to the axis of the cylinder, a spring 11 biasing the bolt to a locking position, the lock cylinder and lock bolt being interconnected whereby the bolt is withdrawn into the unlocking position upon rotation of the cylinder to its unlocking state, and two independent slidable retaining devices 12, 15 to retain the lock bolt in its withdrawn position, a first of which is effective upon the bolt moving into its withdrawn unlocking position and a second of which is effective upon rotating of the lock cylinder to its key removal, "locking" position, both retaining devices being ineffective upon removal of the key from the lock cylinder. As shown, removal of the key enables the device 15 to move radially inwardly of the cylinder, in a slot in which it is mounted, and the pressure of the spring 11 which biases the bolt to its locking position is sufficient to move the device 15 to release the bolt, the end portion of device 15 which engages a notch 18 in the bolt being tapered and the notch being correspondingly tapered. The device 12 also interconnects the bolt and cylinder and the bolt is withdrawn from the locking position by a cam surface 6 formed on a portion of the cylinder, the device 12 which is a spring-biased pin, engaging the surface 6; the surface 6 leads to a groove 5 and when the pin is in the groove 5 the bolt is held in the withdrawn position; the surface 6 does not lead to the base of the groove so that the pin is retained in the groove beyond the position at which it enters it while the bolt is being withdrawn and to enable it to move out of the groove a ramp 7 leads out of the groove. This enables the device 15 to engage the notch 18 before the pin can move out of the groove.
