Abstract

1297706 Treating grain ENTREPRISE RENE & JEAN MORITZ 3 July 1970 [4 July 1969] 32353/70 Heading A2Q [Also in Division Bl] Apparatus for mixing and otherwise treating pasty, powdered and granular materials comprises a container having upper and lower portions 1b, 1a, respectively tapering towards the top and bottom, a continuous feeder 12, a lateral discharge outlet 14 and a fixed extraction vane 15 (see also Fig. 5, not shown) of which part at least extends into the container, and means for exerting upward thrust on the materials (which may be rotatable vanes as 4, 4a or a gas blast), Fig. 7 shows an embodiment for performing reactive processes in which the container has curved walls, a heat exchange jacket 15, and means 18, 19, 20 for injecting gases, as well as vanes 4. Tube 16 is a liquid inlet and 17 is a vacuum connection or gas outlet. The container and/or vanes may be roughened, e.g. by making them of resin-glass-fibre laminate impregnated or coated with glass fibres or powder, quartz powder, or silicon carbide, and used for abrading. Applications mentioned are mixing and coating powders; coating seeds; performing chemical reactions and especially treating with liquid acids, ammania, hydrogen chloride, chlorine and hydrogen; and the removal of bran from cereal grains. A prior art batch mixing device is depicted in Figs. 1-3 (not shown).
