Abstract

1297384 Pressure casting machines JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 2 April 1970 [13 May 1969] 24237/69 Heading B3F [Also in Division F1] In an automatic die-casting machine having a water cooled injection plunger 12, the operation of the machine is automatically stopped when the pressure of water in the injection plunger falls below a pre-set value. Water emanating from the plunger 12 is conveyed along a conduit 14 to a switching device 21 (see Fig. 3). The stream of water enters the switch 21 through a pipe 15 and obstructs an aperture 24 at the end of a bore 23. Low pressure air fed in through the bore 23 leaves the switch through a bore 25. If the water pressure falls the aperture 24 becomes unobstructed and air does not enter the bore 25. The low-pressure output from bore 25 controls the flow of high pressure air in a circuit 26, 27, 28. A transducer 27 produces an electrical signal, which allows the operation of the casting machine to continue, when the high pressure air flows through it.
