Abstract
1,111,717. Fluid sorting devices. BENDIX CORPORATION. 24 June, 1965 [25 June, 1964], No. 26848/65. Heading G4P. [Also in Divisions Gland G3] The fluid pressure in a line 14, which is dependent on the internal diameter 25 of a workpiece such as an annular ring 26 is used for controlling a bi-stable device 16, to indicate that the workpiece is oversize, acceptable or undersize. If the workpiece is too large, that is the pressure in line 14 is small, the bi-stable device 16 is not switched by the flow from channel 15 and so an output is obtained along channel 28 to switch two further bi-stable devices 32, 33 to give output along channel 62, 63 respectively. Since there is no flow along channel 64, a valve device 39 is not operated by the flow from channel 63 and so the only signal passed is to read-in memory 46 which provides a signal to ejector device 85 as the workpiece passes station 87 to eject it. If the workpiece is of the correct size a portion of the flow from channel 28 is deflected into channel 27 but the flow remaining in channel 28 is not sufficient to deflect the bi-stable device 32 so that flow continues through channel 64. The flow from channel 28 to channel 61 however is sufficient to deflect the bi-stable device 33 and since there is thus flow on both the inputs to valve member 39 a signal is passed to read-in member 47. This signal is successively passed to members 56, 76, 90, 95 so that when the workpiece reaches station 103 a signal to the ejector member 102 ensures that it is ejected at this station. In a similar manner if the workpiece is undersize it is ejected when it reaches the station 113.
