Abstract

1296999 Electrostatographic developers AUSTRALIA DEPARTMENT OF SUPPLY SECRETARY OF 22 Dec 1969 [30 Dec 1968] 62457/69 Heading G2H An electrostatographic developer comprises a dispersion in an insulating carrier liquid 9 of insulating particles 2 which deposit on charged areas of an electrostatic latent image 11 and larger, more conductive particles 5 which acquire the polarity of the image charges and are repelled thereby unless insulated therefrom by previously deposited insulating particles 2. In operation, particles 2 start to deposit on the image and this enables particles 5 to deposit. Initially particles 5 deposit mainly on the areas of high charge gradient to produce edge development, which is required for X and y ray imaging. A uniformly developed image may be obtained if development is continued. The developer may be prepared by precipitating pigment-resin aggregates from solvent solutions thereof. Preferred resins are styrene but adiene copolymer, vinyl toluene acrylic copolymer; methyl methacrylate; melamine; and ethyl hydroxy cellulose resin. Development characteristics may be modified by adding particles of zirconium octoate, cobalt octoate, iodine or lead napthanote.
