Abstract

1296722 Strut-type suspensions JONAS WOODHEAD Ltd 5 Aug 1971 [11 Aug 1970] 38728/70 Heading B7D A strut 10 for a strut-type suspension is adapted to be releasably secured to a stub axle unit 15, the lower end of the strut being formed with a tapered portion 12 which fits into a complementary tapered bore 14 in the stub axle unit and has a keying groove 21 which receives a rib 22 in the bore 14. A screw-threaded end 13 on the tapered portion 12 receives a nut 16, locating pad 17 and tab washer 18. A spring pan 20 fits detachably into a retainer 19 brazed or welded to the strut. Splines or serrations may be used instead of the groove and rib to key the tapered portion 12 in the bore 14.
